Our Vision for West Contra Costa
Priorities for the Next Four Years
Demetrio is running for reelection because there is still important work ahead. WCCUSD has faced difficult financial decisions, declining enrollment, and growing demands on our schools. At the same time, our students deserve more than simply managing challenges. They deserve strong schools, meaningful opportunities, and a district that is focused on their future.
During his next term, Demetrio will continue working to protect classroom resources, strengthen public education, and ensure that students and families remain at the center of every decision.
Strong Schools and Expanded Opportunities for Students
Every student deserves access to a well-rounded education. Demetrio will continue fighting to protect the programs that help students discover their interests, build confidence, and prepare for the future. That means supporting music, arts, athletics, electives, dual-immersion programs, the International Academy, and expanded college and career pathways across our high schools.
Demetrio will also continue advocating for up-to-date curriculum, strong academic supports, and a thoughtful balance between technology and traditional instruction. Students should leave WCCUSD prepared to succeed in college, careers, and life.
Responsible and Transparent Financial Leadership
WCCUSD must make financially responsible decisions while protecting the services and programs that directly support students. Demetrio will continue pushing for transparent budgets, realistic projections, stronger oversight of outside contracts, and a clear explanation of how district spending aligns with student needs.
He believes the district must reduce its reliance on costly outside contractors when services can be provided more effectively in-house. He will also continue advocating for strategies that strengthen attendance and enrollment, because improving both is essential to the district’s long-term financial stability.
Recruiting, Retaining, and Respecting Educators
Strong schools depend on the people who serve students every day. Demetrio will continue advocating for competitive compensation, strong family healthcare benefits, supportive working conditions, and policies that help WCCUSD recruit and retain talented educators and staff.
As a former classroom teacher, Demetrio understands that educators need the resources, planning time, training, and support necessary to meet the needs of their students. He will continue listening to teachers, classified staff, school leaders, and families as the district works to build stable and successful school communities.
Listening to Families and Strengthening Community Trust
The strongest decisions are made when families, students, educators, and community members are meaningfully included in the process. Demetrio will continue advocating for transparency, accessible communication, and opportunities for families to be heard before major decisions are made.

He will also continue supporting student voice, including meaningful roles for student trustees and opportunities for young people to help shape the future of their schools.
Safe, Welcoming, and Inclusive Schools
Students learn best when they feel safe, respected, and supported. Demetrio will continue working to strengthen school safety, improve communication with families, and ensure that campuses are welcoming places for every child.

He will also continue standing with immigrant families and advocating for clear protections so that students can attend school without fear. Every student deserves to feel that they belong in WCCUSD, regardless of their background, language, or circumstances.
Stronger Support for Students with Special Needs
Families should not have to fight to access the services their children deserve. Demetrio will continue advocating for stronger special-education programs, better communication with families, and a long-term strategy to recruit and retain qualified staff.
He believes WCCUSD should reduce its dependence on expensive outside contractors whenever possible by building sustainable, high-quality services within the district. Investing in in-house expertise can improve consistency for students, strengthen accountability, and make better use of public resources.
Building for the Future
Demetrio believes that the next four years must be about more than responding to immediate challenges. WCCUSD must build a stronger foundation for the future: modern schools, responsible finances, excellent educators, meaningful academic opportunities, and a clear commitment to every student. We have to leverage prop 2 funding to take it as far as possible for all of our schools in need.

The work is not easy, but Demetrio remains committed to bringing people together, listening carefully, and fighting for the public schools our community deserves.
